Dental Implant FAQ — Your Questions Answered
Dental implants are small titanium posts that are surgically placed into the jawbone to serve as artificial tooth roots. They provide a permanent, stable foundation for replacement teeth—whether that is a single crown, a multi-tooth bridge, or a full arch of fixed teeth. Titanium is biocompatible, meaning the body accepts it and the bone fuses around it through a process called osseointegration.
Most adults with reasonable general health are candidates. The key requirements are adequate jawbone to support the implant and healthy gums. Conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes, heavy smoking, or certain medications can affect healing, but they do not necessarily disqualify you. If bone loss is present, procedures such as bone grafting, sinus lifts, or pterygoid implants can often make placement possible. The only way to know for certain is a clinical examination with 3D imaging—which we provide at your first consultation.
The cost depends on the number of implants, the type of restoration, and whether preparatory procedures (such as bone grafting or extractions) are needed. A single implant with a crown in Ontario typically ranges from $3,500 to $6,000. Full-arch solutions like All-on-4 or All-on-6 range more broadly depending on complexity. We provide transparent, itemized pricing at your consultation and offer flexible payment options. Visit our Cost of Treatment page for more detail.
Both are full-arch restoration techniques that use strategically placed implants to support a complete row of fixed teeth. All-on-4 uses four implants per arch; All-on-6 uses six. At Simcoe Dental Implants, we often recommend All-on-6 because the additional two implants provide broader support, distribute forces more evenly, and offer a greater safety margin. However, the right choice depends on your bone density, arch length, and other clinical factors—Dr. Filo will recommend the best approach for your specific case.
Teeth-in-a-day (also called same-day teeth or immediate-load implants) is a protocol where implants are placed and a full set of temporary teeth is attached in a single appointment. You walk out of the clinic with functional teeth the same day. The temporary teeth are worn while the implants heal over several months, then replaced with a permanent prosthetic. This protocol is commonly used with All-on-4 and All-on-6 procedures.
Most patients are surprised by how comfortable the experience is. Implant surgery is performed under local anesthesia at minimum, and we offer IV sedation and general anesthesia for patients who prefer to be fully relaxed or asleep during the procedure. Post-operative discomfort is typically mild and well-managed with over-the-counter or prescription pain medication. Most patients return to normal activities within a few days.
With proper care—regular brushing, flossing, and professional cleanings—dental implants can last a lifetime. The implant post itself is extremely durable. The prosthetic crown or bridge on top may need to be replaced after 10–20 years due to normal wear, much like a conventional dental restoration.
Yes. We guarantee all implant treatments, including the prosthetic restoration, for a period of five years, provided the patient follows the maintenance and hygiene instructions we provide. Please ask about warranty details at your consultation.
This is one of the most common reasons patients seek us out. Dr. Filo is experienced in advanced techniques including sinus lifts, ridge splitting, block grafting, bone augmentation, and pterygoid implants—all of which can make implant placement possible in cases of significant bone loss. We regularly treat patients who have been turned away by other providers.
Coverage varies by plan. Many insurance plans cover a portion of the implant procedure, particularly the surgical component. Our team will help you understand your benefits and submit pre-authorizations on your behalf. We also offer financing options for any out-of-pocket costs. Visit our cost of treatment page for more information.
While implant treatment may be less expensive in certain countries, the long-term value of having your implants placed and maintained locally is significant. Complications—particularly with full-arch cases—can be complex and costly to resolve. Differences in material quality, sterilization standards, and follow-up care also pose risks. At Simcoe Dental Implants, you receive ongoing care from the same doctor who placed your implants, with a five-year warranty, and the peace of mind that comes with treatment in a regulated Canadian healthcare environment.
